The Technology: An Overview
HDX technology is a set of capabilities that deliver a “high definition” desktop virtualization user experience to end users for any application, device or network. These user experience enhancements must balance performance with low bandwidth – anything else becomes impractical to use and scale. HDX technology provides network and performance optimizations to deliver the best user experience over any network, including low bandwidth and high latency WAN connections.
Citrix Branch Repeater, a key component of HDX, is a product family comprised of Branch Repeater appliances for branch offices, Repeater appliances for datacenters and a Repeater Plug-in for Citrix Receiver. Together these form a complete WAN optimization solution that extends beyond the branch office, across the entire enterprise.
Unlike other WAN optimization solutions, only Branch Repeater includes ICA acceleration powered by HDX IntelliCache and HDX Broadcast technologies to optimize virtual application delivery. Branch Repeater is easy to deploy and can be centrally managed through a single management console.

The Repeater Plug-in for Citrix Receiver pairs with a Repeater appliance in the datacenter to bring application acceleration benefits directly to an individual PC. The Repeater Plug-in is compatible with leading VPN solutions including Citrix Access Gateway. The same Repeater appliance in the datacenter that provides application acceleration for branch and mobile users also accelerates traffic to remote disaster recovery sites, cutting data replication windows from hours to minutes.
The Citrix Branch Repeater India team contributes to several features for the Branch Repeater Product line. Features for the Repeater plug-in which provides WAN optimization for mobile users are developed in India. Branch Repeater VPX which is a Virtual Appliance based on hypervisors such as Citrix® XenServer™ and VMware® vSphere™ that provides WAN Optimization functionality was recently released.
